The Power of Spontaneous Connections: A Behind-the-Scenes Moment at a Convention

I recently had the pleasure of working a 2-day convention at the Boca Resort. As you can imagine, when you're cranking out 255 headshots over 48 hours, there's not a lot of time for deep breaths—let alone casual conversation. The hustle is real, the clock is ticking, and the only thing on your mind is keeping the shots sharp, quick, and on point.

But sometimes, just when you're in the thick of it, something unexpected happens that reminds you why human connection is so important.
Cue Matt Iseman.
You might recognize him as the comedian and host of American Ninja Warrior. Matt was there as a keynote speaker and entertainer, and out of nowhere, he stepped in front of my camera. Now, usually, I'm focused on getting the perfect shot, but when Matt Iseman walks up, the vibe shifts. He's a goofball—a funny, larger-than-life personality who’s ready to roll with whatever comes his way. And of course, I had to let him in on the secret: "My wife and daughter are big fans of your show."

What happened next was totally unexpected and so much fun. Without missing a beat, Matt insisted on sending them a video message. He grabbed my phone, hit record, and in his usual goofy style, sent a hilarious shout-out to my family. It was an interaction that wasn’t planned, didn’t fit into the schedule, but man, it was a moment I won’t forget.
And this is where the magic happens. In the middle of a high-pressure, high-volume gig, when you’re just trying to get through the day, a spontaneous, off-the-cuff moment of connection reminds you of something simple but profound: people are the reason we do what we do.
In our fast-paced world, it’s easy to forget the power of those quick, human moments. We get caught up in the grind and sometimes overlook the impact we can have on each other. But it’s the unexpected, real interactions—the genuine, unplanned connections—that make life special. Whether it’s a quick chat with a comedian, or just sharing a laugh with a client—it’s those moments that remind us we’re all human. And that's the real magic of what I do.

So, the next time you’re busy, juggling a thousand things, remember: it’s okay to pause for a moment, connect with someone, and let a spontaneous interaction bring a little joy into your day. Because at the end of the day, it’s those little things that make it all worthwhile.
And hey, if you happen to meet Matt Iseman in the process? Well, that’s just a bonus. 😊
